Widgets in Publishing

This post was written by Shabir Musthafa

Everyone is talking about widgets these days. The publishing industry has been experimenting with widgets for some time now, with leading publishers using them to good effect.

Widgets are a great way to virally market your content . Widgets encourage readers to  take ownership of the ‘widgeted content’. They can embed the widget in their website, blog and social networking sites. The ‘buzz’ created can considerably increase the ‘ discoverability’ of a title.

Widgets can support advertising, help in brand building and allow publishers to set different business models to suit the content.

An Example of a book widget.
